I went to my first support group meeting in March 2012 for people with dementia and their carer. The group is specific to people under the age of 65. I went on my own as I did not know what to expect. After a short greeting the group was spilt. Those with dementia were taken out and look after allowing the carers to open up to their peers about the experience and emotion they were going through. I saw and heard of the journey possibly ahead. There within the group were people in each of the three stages of dementia. It was confronting but I knew that we were not the only ones on this journey and there are community organizations there to support us. If you are not in a group find one. The wealth of knowledge, the pearls of wisdom and friendship are priceless.
